Oh, January!

Oh, January—what a month!

As some of you know, I worked a contract position with Sundance Film Festival as a special events coordinator from October to February. The festival was from January 19-29 and I worked (almost) every minute of that time period. Well, that’s exaggerating --but only by a little. I did work very long days (18-20 hour days for much of the festival). I coordinated 15 events over the 10 days of the festival, and supported the rest of my team (together, the 8 of us planned and executed over 90 events!). It was an incredible experience; fun, challenging, rewarding… and by the end pretty exhausting. But, it was one of those life-in-a-life-time experiences that I will remember fondly forever, and made some lasting connections. A few photos:

Eric & I even saw each other a couple times in January

The weeks leading up to the festival were also very busy… hence my neglect to the blog (and laundry, and the dishes, and my family).

But, we were lucky enough that Eric’s Dad came to visit for the FULL festival—nearly two weeks. He helped Eric with Isaac & chauffeured us around. Isaac sure loves his grandparents! I’m sure Eric and Don’s recollection of January is much different than mine… but for me it went by in the blink of an eye, and is an experience I'll never forget!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2012!

My good friend Melba came to visit for NYE weekend. She was our first official "non-family member" visitor.  And how did we thank her?  Well, for one, our new cat peed on her (but I'll save that story for another time).  But besides that 'warm welcome', we showed her around town, gabbed a lot, snowboarded and had a fabulous new years eve!

Christmas Morning in Park City

A belated Merry Christmas to everyone!

We celebrated our first Christmas in Park City. We enjoyed a  long weekend, a quiet Christmas Eve dinner at home, and lots of sledding at the park, of course. For Christmas Day, we opened presents, had a big breakfast and went to dinner at our friends Andy & Michelle's house. We missed all of our family and friends in Seattle, however we are thankful for the great group of friends we have here in Park City already. Isaac didn't have the anticipation of Christmas, but he certainly was excited to open gifts, and still remembers who they are from.  Here are a few photos from Christmas morning:

Santa

It's a terrible, hilarious tradition...

We went to a holiday open house at the Ice Rink. They had holiday festivities, including Santa.
Waiting in line, Isaac seemed excited.  He was saying "Ho Ho Ho" and curiously watching the other kids smile for the camera.
But when it was his turn, I sort of threw him on his lap.
And then the panic ensued.  Oops!

Last year he looked like a deer in the headlights, but calm...
Maybe Christmas #3 we'll get a smile???

2010

On a happy note, we did have fun at the ice rink.  Eric used to play hockey, so he's a pro on skates.  He took Isaac out for a spin around the rink, which was a big hit.

Christmas Came a Little Early

Christmas came a little early, with Grandma & Grandpa's visit last week.

We enjoyed many good meals at home, and out in Park City... Including an extravagant Sunday brunch at the Stein Erikson Lodge in Deer Valley (a mountain resort area just a few minutes from Park City).

20 Months

Life's a little hectic right now. But I wanted to pause and reflect on Isaac at 20 months:

He makes us laugh when:

• He pats us on the back during a hug
• He reminds us to put everything away, in the proper place
• He toots really loud and does the "stinky" wave
• He eats like a 20 year-old instead of a 20 month-old.  Last Saturday he ate 3/4 a box of mac n cheese, 1.5 hot dogs, 3 tangerines and 30 gold fish... for ONE of his 6 meals per day. Oi!
• He mimics a monkey or the dog, or any animal for that matter

He makes us proud when:

• His teacher at daycare says he's a very smart guy, and "really puts things together quickly"  
• He communicates concepts like the pills are for the doggy's ouchie, or that grandma and grandpa are coming to visit on an airplane (without our prompting).  Sometimes what he understands blows us away
• He wants to color 24/7 (and he seems to know all of his colors... they are all named "blue")

Things that have been hard:

• Weaning:  Isaac is officially weaned! I'm proud to say that I breastfed Isaac nearly 20 months. We slowly tapered off, but cutting it off totally wasn't easy (for either of us).  But it was time.  It's now been almost 2 weeks since the milk factory has been closed and we seem to be adjusting 
• Dinner time: After many months of eating successfully in his high chair, he now wants to eat only on Mommy's lap (most likely because of bullet above)
• Discipline: The terrible two's may have officially begun. We're still figuring out the best approach.

Things that have been easy:

• Bedtime:  For the most part, he says "night night" and goes right to sleep
• Daycare:  He loves it there!
• Social Time:  Isaac is a complete joy around other people, and seems to genuinely enjoy being around family and friends. Speaking of which, he won't shut up about grandma and grandpa M visiting tomorrow.

Sledding Part 3

He was a little scared after his last adventure sledding (and face-planting).  But, he held on tight to me our first time down and I could here him laughing, so I knew we were good again.  This video was our 3rd time down, and we ended up going about 10 times before we called it a day.  Back in the saddle again!
